Admiral Richard E Byrd's diary shed some light on this for me. He was a Admiral in the U.S. Navy during and after the second world war, who was sent on many missions to the poles. His experiences are quite profound.
At minimum, I believe it is worthwhile to consider that Earth many not be shaped as straightforward as presented to us… whether it is flat, round, hollow, or all of the above could be some aspect of multidimensionality that 'joe-shmoe' humanity hasn't been privy to, or quite simply wasn't able to fathom/accept until now.
Just as so many other factors of our society have been 'twisted' into the presentation that has become 'fact' which I've later discovered to be 'fallacy', I choose to be open minded about this too.
